The Role of Gossip in The Crucible free essay sample

Gossip-Catalyst of the Witch Hunt Gossip, or rumors is part of our daily life. It is everywhere and it spreads rapidly. Gossip is different from lying. People don’t mean to tell lies when they gossip. However, gossip either twists and exaggerates the truth, or affects people’s mind and influence their judgement. In the Crucible, in the Salem witch trial, rumors played an important role. They spread like pests and were the catalyst of the witch trial. It was because of the gossip’s ability to twist the truth and affect people’s judgement that caused many innocent people’s death.Sarah Good was one of the first three women who were accused of witchcraft. One of the main evidence that proved her â€Å"guilt† was when she asked for charity and was rejected, she always muttered under her breath. In fact Sarah was probably just complaining, but when people talked about this, the complaining became curses. We will write a custom essay sample on The Role of Gossip in The Crucible or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Rumor has the ability to twist or exaggerate the truth. Especially when gossips pass from one person to another, more details and descriptions that might not be true are added. This happened because people wanted to make the stories they told more interesting. However, this may cause a very bad influence sometimes. Another proof is Giles’ words about his wife. He said that his wife was reading a book, and â€Å"it(the book) discomfits me! Last nightmark thisI tried and tried and could not say my prayers. And then she close her book and walks out of the house, and suddenlymark thisI could pray again! †(38) A book can’t have affected one’s ability to pray. Giles was obviously making up his story. It was possible that he could’t focus during the prayer, but he exaggerated it and make people feel that it was because of the book his wife was reading that disturbed him from praying.Giles didn’t mean to tell a lie, but he was not telling the truth either. This gossip put his wife in dangerous situation. On the other hand, gossips influence people’s mind by the conformist mentality. Conformist mentality means that people would do something, or make their decision, because other people around them were doing the same thing or making the same decision. This is based on the fear of being different from others. Mary Warren was one of the girls who were accused of witchcraft. During her trial, Mr. Danforth asked her if she had seen spirits, and she answered, â€Å"II cannot tell how, but I did.II heard the other girls screaming, and you, Your Honor, you seemed to believe them, and IIt were only sport in the beginning, sir, but then the whole world cried spirits, spirits, and II promise you, Mr. Danforth, I only thought I saw them but I did not†(100). Apparently the spirits didn’t exist at all; Mary herself knew that too. However, she fainted and her body went cold when she was affected by the behaviors of others. She mentioned the girls were â€Å"screaming,† and the judge seemed to â€Å"believe them,† even the whole world began to cry â€Å"spirits, spirits. All these factors were giving Mary the hint that there were spirits around them. She didn’t want to be different from others because that would make her weird and special, so although she saw no spirits, she acted as if she saw them. Later in the court, when Abigail was accusing John Proctor of witchcraft, â€Å"she and all the girls run to one wall, shielding their eyes† and the girls â€Å"let out a gigantic scream. † What effect did this have on Mary? She, â€Å"as though infected, opens her mouth and screams with them. † This kind of examples are everywhere in our daily life, though they might not be this extreme. The simplest one is that you didn’t plan to go on the movie run, but when you figure out all of your friends were going, you would probably go with them. Usually the conformist mentality does’t cause troubles, but when things turn in the wrong direction, it would drive more and more people in the wrong direction. So it is important not to be influenced by other people’s thought. Always think logically and make your own decision. However, sometimes people can even go further than just agreeing with others’ ideas. They may fabricate facts to satisfy the need of the atmosphere, or the society. For instance, Mrs. Putnam asked Reverend Parris â€Å"Hw high did she(Betty) fly, how high? † When Reverend Parris denied it and claimed â€Å"she never flew,† Mrs. Putnam told him that â€Å"Mr. Collins saw her goin’ over Ingersoll’s barn, and come down light as bird†(12). It is obvious that Betty couldn’t have flown, but people were making up stories of seeing her fly. The reason they were producing rumors like this is that the society, which is the village of Salem in the story, was stuck on hunting witches at that time.People all have the desire to be in the main stream of the society, so they built up the rumors to prove that they were on the side of justice and they were hunting witches as most of the people were doing. According to the evidence above, the important role of gossip in the Salem Witch Trial is of no doubt. The same problem is still happening right now in our daily life. Rumors are enemy of sensibility. Most of them are overstated and unrealistic. So don’t let these words from others fill up your mind. Think logically and use your own judgement.

Worldwide Hospitality and Tourism Themes -myassignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about theWorldwide Hospitality and Tourism Themes. Answer: Report to the client For proper planning and execution of project, council permit must be obtained in accordance with the available regulations. The analysis of the land under consideration must be carried out to enhance proper decision making on the design and implementation of the project on such lands. The analysis of the land has been carried out and the following review has been made. This review will enhance the preparation of proper procedure for the permit obtaining and execution of other details and services which will enhance the execution of the project (Lenahan, 2011). The application of the permits will be done to suit the project which you have described to the architect. In addition, the relevant communication has been done to the relevant stakeholders to ensure that they proceed with the permit application for the project execution. One of the key elements of the land under survey is the bushfire element. The region is prone to the bushfire which has been able to bring different negative effects on the structures in this location. Nevertheless, with proper mitigation measures, the bushfire is not a big thereat which can be able to prevent the execution of the project. The council in Wallington has been able to prepare different legislation measures which can be adopted to ensure that structures are protected against bushfire. The design team will be able to in cooperate these measures in the project execution to ensure that the structure is protected. Major communication has been done by the design team to ensure that they acquire permits to install the key bushfire mitigation mechanisms in the project. The analysis shows that the area has been able to experience different incidents of bushfire. The preparedness on the bushfire effect has shown that proper mitigation measures are able to scale down the negative effects by a large margin. Clear measures and permit obtaining is on the process to ensure that the structure id free from damage by the bushfire effects. Installation of firefighting mechanisms and additional backups will be carried out on the structure according to the design team. The team is working to get the permits for the additional firefighting backups in the structure to ensure that the mitigation plans in case of the bushfire are well done. Bushfire management in this location is anticipated for and it will help to enhance the structure and its durability (Miller, Miller Baker, 2004). From the BMO, it is clear that the risks of bushfire are spread on this location and therefore proper permits to have the control measures are required. The project team is therefore working on the available measures to acquire the permits to ensure that the project is well protected. The council has the key requirements on the way the bushfire management can be achieved to ensure security and durability of the structures. In the design part, the team will be able to include the details on the management of these risks. The council regulations will be used in the design of the mitigation measures (Nova Scotia, 2004). The permits will be acquired and the management of the team will implement the key mitigation plans. Most important, the council has key infrastructure in the region which is used to mitigate the bushfire risks. The team will acquire the key permits to use these infrastructures in order to enhance the proper mechanism to mitigate the effects of bushfire. These resources will be used to enhance the mitigation plan for the bushfire effects (Victoria., Parks Victoria., Forest Fire Management Victoria, 2016). The team will collaborate with the council team to ensure that the best mechanism to mitigate the effect and have clear backup is put in place. The permits acquired will ensure that the team can enhance the completion of the project on time and within the stated budget. Environmental significance is another key factor which was determined through this analysis. The environmental outplay has a great impact on the different aspects of the construction. First, it is related to the stability of the ground which affects the foundation of the structures. The analysis of the environmental significance shows that the area is well suited for the intended project. The foundational stability is good enough to accommodate the project and ensure they are well set up. This aspect is able to offer great and clear message that the execution of the project will be great. In addition, environmental factors will be closely monitored and the effect of the project. This means that the permits with the relevant bodies which deal with the environment will be applied and acquired. The permits will be required to ensure that the environmental issues are well addressed and compensation mechanisms are offered. The project may affect the environment in some way and therefore c ompensation for the environmental issues will be needed. The permits will be able to cater for such issues during the project execution and ensure that the progress of the project is done according to the plan. Issues that the disposal of extra materials which are obtained from the site will also need these permits since they are likely to interfere with the environment (Benson Benson, 2016). The team is working on these applications to ensure that they obtain the certifications on time before the project commences. This will aid proper working of the team on executing the project to the required standards. The protection of the environment is one key aspect which the council of Wallington is concerned with and well monitored. This places the priority on the acquisition of these permits key for the team before any works are done on the site. These issues are well worked in by the team and this will ensure that the execution of the project to achieve the required standards. The permit issues will ensure that the area is being protected in terms of the environmental issues (Johnsson Hager, 2008). The environmental issues will be addressed accordingly to ensure that the project is well done. Future environmental issues will be addressed at the project execution time. The environmental location of the land has been addressed and the major issues are being addressed to acquire the relevant permits to ensure proper execution of the project and enhance creating proper structure which can last. Another key issue and factor in the land in the heritage overplay. Protection of the heritage on the land is a key issue, which is observed in this piece of land (Dioko Teare, 2017). The team is working to acquire the relevant permits to ensure that they are protected while working on the project. These permits will be used to ensure the protection of the heritage factors in the project execution. The team will be trying to put the relevant mechanisms to ensure that the heritage factors are held high and protected as required by the laws (Victoria et al., 2016). The council in Wallington has key measures to protect the heritage factors and the team will be able to acquire the prevention of heritage factors. The address on these issues will be required to conform to the laws which are present. The permits will ensure that the team is able to enhance the protection of the key factors within the location and enhancing its demand. In addition, both the design team and implementation tea m will work to ensure that the project meet the key standards in terms of heritage in the location. In conclusion, the team will be able to acquire the key issues which the council requires through acquisition of the relevant permits. The different issues in the land are being addressed by the team to ensure that they comply with the available regulation. Bushfire issues, heritage and environmental issues are the key issue raised from the analysis. The different respective professionals are working to ensure that they get the permits to ensure that the project will be executed without a hitch. References Benson, M., Benson, M. (July 13, 2016). buy custom Einstein’s Problem Solving Model essay Introduction Life is full of problems, and the success of an individual significantly depends on the manner in which he or she solves these problems. Different people have different methods of solving different problems. In addition, no single model can solve all the problems. This simply implies that certain problem solving methodologies are efficient in certain problem domains. However, all problem solvers share one common characteristic, that is, they all have problem solving skills. According to Hayes (2013), problem-solving skills refer to the analytical abilities required by an individual to determine which framework or model to use in order to solve a given problem. There are various strategies, such as Einsteins problem solving, interpersonal conflict and effective communication, and the problem solving process, that can be deployed in solving problems. This paper focuses on Einsteins problem solving model to illustrate the key steps in finding a solution to a real problem. Applying Einsteins Problem Solving Model The given scenario describes a problem in which an individual faces conflicting responsibilities. He or she has to organize time effectively in order to meet the responsibilities. This way, ten steps involved in Einsteins problem solving model will be used to solve the problem represented in the scenario. Rephrasing the Problem This phase involves rewording the problem statement in few precise words (Jonassen, 2000). The term conflicting responsibilities is not precise, and therefore the individual might experience difficulty in understanding the problem. In order to solve the problem, a proper understanding is necessary. The individual has to search for ways of dealing with conflicting responsibilities. The terms ways of dealing with conflicting responsibilities can be replaced by ways of scheduling responsibilities. ccording to Jonassen (2000), words have strong implicit meaning. As a result, words play a major role in the manner in which one perceives a problem. Exposing Challenges and Assumptions All problems have at least one assumption attached. There are various assumptions linked to the problem presented in the scenario (Hayes, 2013). The first assumption is that weekday job will always last from 9 am to 6 pm. This cannot always be the case since the job might take more or less time. It can also be assumed that classes will always take place between 6 pm and 10 pm. Thus, there is the question whether other activities will be affected if classes take longer than expected. In addition, the scenario assumes that online classes will always take place regardless of various communication problems. One sibling is also assumed to live two miles away. This might not be the case because people can change location. Lastly, medical cost can fluctuate. By testing every assumption for validity, one brings more clarity to the problem at hand. Chunking Up This involves viewing the problem from a wider perspective (Hayes, 2013). Every problem is essentially a portion of a greater problem. The scenario describes a problem, which is sub-problem of another larger problem. For instance, the general viewpoint of the scenario is disorganization. By dealing with disorganization, the individual is likely to deal with conflicting responsibilities, which is the sub-problem. Conflicting responsibilities are essentially part of lack of life planning. Chunking Down This involves developing a narrow perspective concerning the problem (Hayes, 2013). According to Hayes (2013), every problem is a sub-problem of another larger problem. The problem presented by the scenario contains other examples of problems. For example, the scenario explains that the individual is likely to have high level of cholesterol, high blood pressure, and obbesity. Apparently, these health problems might be caused by having a poor lifestyle, which is linked to a long-term disorganization of life events. Finding Multiple Perspectives This involves looking at the problem from various angles. The scenario can be examined from various perspectives during this phase. In the scenario, the problem is to find ways of scheduling the activities properly so that they do not conflict. One perspective that can be taken is that of the children who either play soccer or participate in the band. Such a perspective will indicate dangers of not attending soccer or band. According to Hayes (2013), looking at the problem from various viewpoints is an effective way of having instant understanding of new overlooked directions. Using Effective Language Constructs This involves formulating multiple problem statements (Hayes, 2013). It should be noted that there is no single formula that can be used to construct all the problem statements. The individuals can assume various solutions. In the case scenario, the individual can ask himself or herself such question as How can the degree be completed within two years while taking care of the children? Another construct that can be formulated when dealing with the problem is Can the paper be postponed and done after attending the soccer tournament? Essentially, this involves framing the problem as a question that should be answered using multiple assumptions. Making the Problem Engaging The problem solving methods should be exciting in order to enable an individual to solve it (Hayes, 2013). The problem statement should not subject an individual to tight boring schedule. In the case scenario, it is possible to miss the childrens soccer tournament, and compensate the damages done to the children by taking them to picnics. This is enjoyable and exciting to both the children and the parent. Buy custom Einstein’s Problem Solving Model essay
